A Step AHead Learning Center.

Thank you for your interest in A Step Ahead Learning Center.

A Step Ahead Learning Center is an accredited site by NECPA

(National Early Childhood Program Accreditation) since Feb. 2009.

Mission Statement:

We have tried to develop a family atmosphere here. We hope that your child will be comfortable in our small and loving classrooms. We believe in helping your child develop a positive self-esteem and self-control. Our vision is to allow your child/children to develop these aspects in order to help them become properly functioning adults that will benefit their community. As John F. Kennedy stated “It’s not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.” Applying this thought we hope that your support will help the success of you and your child here at this center. We are looking forward to meeting you and your child.

Statement of commitment:

We have been working with children since April 1986. The director is committed to establishing a school geared to the emotional and educational needs of children. The center was built and started because of the director’s experience with her own daughter during her early years. The name A Step Ahead was derived to give students a head start, the best first step that could be provided. As a director/teacher the director wants to provide an environment that enhances and enlightens the child along with their families. We are committed to creating an engaging, loving and family oriented environment.

Purpose:

A Step Ahead Learning Center serves sixty-one children, ages two through five

and an After School Program age six through twelve. Our infant Center serves only nine children. We are in the process of expanding our toddler care, which will encompass eight more students. We have tried to maintain a home like atmosphere with school  rules and regulations. Our students are in a socially mixed milieu during indoor (after 5:30 p.m.) and outdoor play. Our program tries to balance the needs and interests of the individual child with those of the group, and is intended  to be flexible so each child can grow at his/her own pace. Our primary objectives are to provide quality Day Care  for our infants, toddlers and a progressive school for our older children allowing them to develop cognitively, socially, physically and to promote each child's self identity and self-esteem.

Program:

The program shall include opportunities for a child to have free choice of activities to play alone or with the group if desired, and is geared to the age levels and developmental needs of each child served. This program encompasses the emergent literacy practices. We offer a planned program including Art, Science, Language Art, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Computer Science, large and small motor developmental activities that can be accomplished at each child’s own pace. Our program is working towards providing a dance and music program  for students’ two years and up. There will be a balance of quiet, active play, indoor and outdoor play daily. The daily program shall be posted for parents to view and question. The infant program will vary and will be developed by the parent and the director according to each child’s need. The school will provide tutoring for the after-schoolers. Our summer program will include a time for academic enhancements. The night program will provide dinner and a creative playtime before tucking all children to bed by 9:30 P.M., pick up must be no later than 11:00 P.M. All doors will be locked for the evening by 12:30 P.M. Our staff, in terms of educational background and staff-child ratio meets and in some cases exceeds current state licensing standards.
